I really think there is something wrong with our society that people try to get out of jury duty. I'm not sure that I would go as far to say that I thought it was an honor to serve jury duty, but I did feel a sense of pride that I was a part (albeit very small) of ensuring that the system works. Our jury system is based on the idea that the jury is a good representation of society. If only

Agree. Jury duty sucks, but it is a small price for our freedom to vote. I don't agree with the strong-arming tactics of the cities you mentioned, but neither do I agree with bailing out on this.
